RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team is adding four new players to its roster for the 2023-24 season and one that will join the team this coming spring as first-year head coach
Shaun Wiseman announced his signing class on Wednesday as part of the fall Signing Day period.
In his class, Wiseman signed three international players and one from the state of Texas. Included in his initial signing class are Monica Balau, Sofia Beggiatto, Elis Gergel, Kristyna Dvorakova and Nabilah Dunn.
"I am very excited about all the young talent we have coming in next Fall," said Wiseman. "We are going to be a young team but each of these young ladies will contribute in a big way. With the departure of three seniors after the Spring season, this class will hopefully keep us moving in the right direction.
"I am happy with the talent assembled so far and plan to continue adding more for what should end up being a memorable freshman class" added Wiseman.
Monica Balau
Onda, Castellón, Spain| Ies Francesc Ribalta
One of the top junior players in Spain, Balau has a UTR score of 8.12. Since 2021, she has won 11 tournaments.
Sofia Beggiato
Villa Allende, Cordoba, Argentina| LSU-Alexandria
Transferring into the program at the semester break, Beggiato brings a wealth of collegiate tennis experience with stops at Division I Jackson State and most-recently at NAIA nationally-ranked LSU-Alexandria. He currently has a UTR score of 7.6.
Elis Gergel
Krasnodar, Russia | Istochnik Znaniy
Gergel is a highly-successful junior player from Russia that has current UTR score of 7.98. This past calendar year of 2022, Gergel has won three tournaments and dating back to 2020, the individual win total is nine.
Kristyna Dvorakova
Prague, Czech Republic | Maumelle Charter High School
Hailing from the Czech Republic, Dvorakova is currently ranked as the No. 96 women's tennis player in the Czech Republic and has a UTR score of 7.88. Recently, she advanced to the round of 16 in the Czech A tournament in winter 2022, was a finalist on Czech B tournament in summer 2021 and reached the round of 32 in the Women's Czech Championship in summer 2021.
Nabilah Dunn
Spring, Texas | Homeschool
A two-star recruit out of the state of Texas, Dunn is currently ranked as the No. 42 Girls 18 tennis player in the state and is ranked in the top-500 in the United States. Her current UTR is 6.3
