RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – For the second time this season, the Arkansas Tech baseball team has swept the Great American Conference weekly awards as the league office on Monday announced
Trace Maddux as the Player of the Week and
Patrick Miner as the Pitcher of the Week.
Both players were instrumental in guiding the Wonder Boys to a series sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma and in so doing, set them up for a share of the GAC Regular Season Championship.
For Miner, the Pitcher of the Week award is his second of the year as he first won the honor back on March 2.
In earning his second GAC Pitcher of the Week award, Miner had his best and most-dominant outing of the season this past weekend against Southeastern Oklahoma and set the tone for the remainder of the weekend in what turned out to be a dominant three-game sweep of the Savage Storm.
In his start, Miner was on the cusp of history as he carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning and proceeded to get the first two outs of the inning. Southeastern Oklahoma then drew just their second baserunner of the game on a walk and in the next at-bat broke up the no-hitter and shutout with a double to right field.
Miner would stay in the game and finished off the complete game retiring the next batter.
Overall, Miner pitched 9.0 innings and allowed just one hit and one run, walked two and tied his career-high in strikeouts with 10.
He is now 8-2 on the year and leads the GAC in strikeouts with 89.
For Maddux, this is his first GAC Player of the Week award and he earned it by being one of the key offensive players for the Wonder Boys this past weekend. For the weekend, Maddux hit .636 (7-for-11) with four runs scored, three doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs.
Registering multiple hits in all three games, Maddux's best game came in the finale as he went 3-for-3 with a double and two home runs. Both of his home runs were three-run shots as he ended the game with seven total RBIs.
Additionally, Maddux had an eye-popping slugging percentage of 1.455 and an on-base percentage of .667.
