RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Only three more weekends remain in the 2021 Great American Conference baseball regular season and as good fortune would have it, the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys will have the luxury of playing those final three weekends in the familiar confines of Baswell Field.

The first of those series for the Wonder Boys is a marquee clash with upstart Northwestern Oklahoma State. Originally scheduled for the normal Friday-Saturday slate, rainy conditions in Russellville both of those days prompted a shift to Sunday-Monday.

The Wonder Boys will enter the series with NWOSU looking to get back on track after getting swept on the road at Southwestern Oklahoma. The series sweep was the first against the Wonder Boys this year and just their second series defeat in league play. Despite the tough weekend, the Wonder Boys remain at the top of the league standings and are in a three-way tie with Oklahoma Baptist and Southern Arkansas.

Statistically, the Wonder Boys remain one of the top offensive teams in the GAC and will enter the series hitting .335 as a team (352-for-1,050). The Wonder Boys have also scored 240 runs, hit 70 doubles, 13 triples and 32 home runs. Seven of their lineup regulars are hitting over .300 with six of those over the .350 mark.

Trace Maddux is currently the team-leader in batting average at .410 (43-for-105). He is also tied for the team-lead in doubles (10), triples (4) and RBIs (31). The top power threat on the team is currently Evan Hafley as he leads the team with seven round-trippers.

On the mound, the Wonder Boys are currently sporting a 4.14 team ERA and have totaled 280 strikeouts in 248 innings of work. In the rotation, Tech has used the same three starters all season with Hayes Cox, Patrick Miner and Riyan Rodriguez all having made 10 starts so far. That trio has combined for a 15-7 record and 153 strikeouts in 155.0 innings. Cox and Miner are tied for the most wins with six each and Miner is currently the team-leader in strikeouts with 61.

For NWOSU, the Rangers enter play 20-11 overall and 15-9 in GAC play. They are currently hitting .307 as a team (315-for-1,025). They have also scored 216 runs, hit 67 doubles, eight triples and 43 home runs. They currently have five lineup regulars hitting over .300 with Blake Hoffman leading the way with a .387 average (24-for-62). The top power threat in the lineup is Marques Paige as he has 14 home runs. Paige also leads the team in RBIs with 36.

On the mound, the Rangers have a 5.06 team ERA and have registered 250 strikeouts in 256.0 innings of work. The Rangers have started seven different pitchers on the year. Ethan Swanson has made the most starts with eight and is 2-2 with a 5.97 ERA. The top starter in terms of ERA is Scott Creedon. He is 5-3 with a 3.15 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 54.1 innings of work. The top reliever for NWOSU so far has been Kaleb Honea. He currently is 3-0 with eight saves and has a 1.52 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 23.2 innings of work.
