WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Today, the Golden Suns cross country team made program history – earning runner-up at the Great American Conference Championships and naming Golden Suns' first GAC Freshman of the Year,
Ashlynn Mays. Mays led the team earning 7th with a 19:07.7 runtime.
The Golden Suns took 2nd place behind four-time conference champs, Oklahoma Baptist, with 61 points. All scoring runners for the Golden Suns landed in the Top-16 and earned All-Conference accolades. Mays earned First Team All-Conference, followed by Calli Beshore, Karina Maravillas, Morganne Browning, and Aubre Gilreath earning Second Team All-Conference. This team is the largest and youngest All-Conference Cross Country team in Tech history.
Aubre Gilreath ran her final race finishing 16th with the Golden Suns and decorated her senior season with another All-Conference title to match her 2018 and 2019 All-GAC accolades.
Coming from last year's 5th-place finish, this monumental season has paved a defining path for the Golden Suns' future. The team went in already ahead of any curve previously set by the Golden Suns. The previous record at the conference championship was 3rd on the inaugural meet in 2011.
