RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys football team will face a tall order in its home opener, hosting nationally sixth-ranked and two-time defending Great American Conference champion Ouachita Baptist on Saturday evening.
Kickoff from Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field is set for 6 p.m. Live audio, video, and statistics will be available at www.arkansastechsports.com, with local radio coverage on 102.3-FM (KCJC) in Russellville.Â
SERIES HISTORY
- Arkansas Tech holds an all-time 44-32-7 record in the series with Ouachita Baptist, but since the turn of the decade the series has been tilted toward the Tigers - OBU has won six of eight meetings this decade.Â
FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
- NEON DEON - Deon Simmons had a strong game in the season opener against UAM, putting together 90 yards on 11 carries, averaging 8.2 yards per touch. The freshman from Mayflower found the end zone one time in his Tech debut.Â
- SOMETHING'S A FOOTE - Wallace Foote saw his first game action since the 2013 season and put together 70 yards on nine carries, averaging 7.4 yards per touch.Â
- UNDER CENTER - Manny Harris was the lone Wonder Boys signal caller to see action under center in the season opener, completing 12 of 32 passes for 143 yards in Tech's overtime loss at UAM.Â
- FROM WAY DOWNTOWN - One big plus for the Wonder Boys in the season opener was the play of placekicker Jesus Zizumbo. After going 2-for-8 as a freshman, Zizumbo was a perfect 3-for-3 in the season opener and kicked a long field goal of 47 yards.Â
- STOPPING THE RUN - The Wonder Boys were able to slow down the UAM rushing attack in the season opener. UAM was held to just 2.7 yards per carry.Â
