WONDER BOYS SET TO HOST SAVAGE STORM

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – After handing No. 1 Delta State its first loss of the season the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys baseball team returns to Great American Conference play this weekend as they host Southeastern Oklahoma. The three-game series will begin with a doubleheader on Friday at 3 p.m. and will be followed by a single game on Saturday scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

ALL-TIME SERIES
In a series that began in 1995, Southeastern Oklahoma holds an 18-13 advantage against Arkansas Tech. Arkansas Tech won two of the three matchups last season, capped with a 10-8 win in Durant, Okla. on April, 9.

SCOUTING THE WONDER BOYS
Arkansas Tech (10-7, 5-1 GAC) has won five of its last six games, and is coming off a 6-4 upset over top-ranked Delta State. Prior to splitting a two-game series with the Statesmen, the Wonder Boys had won four straight games, including a three-game sweep of Henderson State.
 
Tristan Thomas has led the Wonder Boys over the last six games with his .550 batting average and .750 slugging percentage. Thomas is also leading the team with seven runs batted in over that span. For the season, Thomas is batting .385 with team-highs in both hits (25) and RBIs (21).
 
Riley Hickerson leads the team with a .387 batting average and has also reached base safely in all 16 games this season. Britt Stroth joins Hickerson as the only other Wonder Boy to reach base safely in all 16 games. Harry Gard, who is batting .462 over the last six games, carries a nine-game hitting-streak into this weekend's games.
 
Isaac Hale and Hayes Cox will pace the Tech rotation. Hale has posted a perfect 3-0 record, while holding opposing batters to a team-low .189 batting average with a 2.95 ERA in 21.1 innings. While Cox, after a rough start to the year, has strung together bac-to-back 7.0 inning outings as he pitched 7.0 shutout innings in an 8-0 win over Ouachita and 7.0 more in Tech's 4-3 walk-off win over Henderson State. Cox has a 1-2 record with a team-high 18 strikeouts in 21.1 innings of work.

SCOUTING THE SAVAGE STORM
Henderson State (7-7, 4-2 GAC) enters the weekend having won three of its last four games. Prior to a 16-6 mid-week victory over Northeastern State, the Savage Storm took two of three from Southwestern Oklahoma (11-10, 6-1, 3-5).

Caleb Dubler, Slayde Ortiz and Joseph Cerda lead the SOSU offense. Dubler is batting a team-high .343, while Ortiz is batting .333 and leads the team in home runs (3) and slugging percentage (.697). Cerde is batting .318 and leads the team with 14 hits and 10 RBIs.

Bryce Deatherage, Mason Whitmarsh and Cody Nitson headline the Savage Storm pitching rotation. Deatherage has posted a 2-2 record in five appearances, posting a team-high 27 strikeouts. Whitmarsh has a 2-1 record and has notched a team-low 2.96 ERA in 27.1 innings of work. He is also holding opposing batters to a .172 batting average. Nitson has a 1-2 record with a 4.21 ERA in 25.2 innings of work. Logan Teske is the first arm out of the bullpen and has a 3.52 ERA in 7.2 innings. Teske is holding opposing batters to a .111 batting average.
