WONDER BOYS OPEN 2019 SEASON AT MINUTE MAID PARK

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Arkansas Tech baseball will open the 2019 season this weekend in Houston, Texas, as the Wonder Boys compete in the Houston Winter Invitational, which will be played at Minute Maid Park. The Wonder Boys will play in three games, beginning with a 10 a.m. contest against Tarleton State on Friday, Feb. 1. 

Tech will follow its first game of the season with a Saturday game against St. Mary's at 5 p.m. before closing the tournament with a 10 a.m. contest with No. 6 Texas A&M-Kingsville on Sunday. All three games will be played at the Minute Maid Park, in Houston Texas. Live statistics are available at www.arkansastechsports.com.

The Wonder Boys are coming off a 2018 season that ended with a 29-23 record overall and a 19-14 record in Great American Conference action. Arkansas Tech finished fifth in the GAC regular season standings, before reaching the semifinals of the conference tournament. 

Arkansas Tech returns senior outfielder, Riley Hickerson, who was an All-GAC second team selection, and sophomore pitcher Hayes Cox, who was an All-GAC honorable mention, as well as a member of the 2018 All-GAC Tournament Team. Hickerson hit .323 last season with a team-high 52 runs batted in. He was also tied for the team lead with 42 runs scored and was second on the team with 62 hits. Cox is coming off a stellar freshman campaign, one which saw him post a 9-3 record in 14 appearances, while recording a 3.63 ERA in 84.1 innings of work.
