Week 2 Game Notes - Tech vs. Henderson State
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys football team looks to get into the win column this Saturday, as Tech opens the home portion of its 2018 schedule with a matchup with traditional powerhouse Henderson State at Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The game will be carried live on KCJCÂ (102.3-FM) in Russellville, with live audio, video, and statistics available at www.arkansastechsports.com.
The Wonder Boys (0-1, 0-1 Great American Conference) and Reddies (0-1, 0-1) are both looking for their first wins of the season. The Wonder Boys and Reddies find themselves in unfamiliar territory at 0-1 as both teams have been in the upper half of the GAC standings in the past few seasons. For the Wonder Boys, a performance reminiscent of last season's performance in Arkadelphia, a 26-3 Tech win, would be ideal. For the Reddies, a return to form would help them avoid their first 0-2 start since the 2009 campaign.Â
Tech running back
Bryan Allen continues to work his way up the record book in several categories. The senior enters the home opener with 2,960 all-purpose yards, which places him seventh all-time in school history. He sits 156 yards behind Frantz Simeon (2007-09) for sixth all-time. Meanwhile, in the rushing category, Allen is chasing all-time Tech leader Larry Brown (1968-71) and his 3,603 career yards. Allen enters the second game of the season with 2,748 rushing yards, 855 yards behind the all-time leader. Allen is currently ranked fifth all-time, and is 90 yards behind Greg Jefferson (1979-82) for fourth all-time.Â
On defense, no Wonder Boys player shined brighter than
KJ Reid last week. The senior turned in a 14-tackle performance, with 10 of the stops going in the book as solo tackles. Defensive back
Cua' Rose had a banner game last season against the Reddies, tying the school record with three picks.Â
Saturday's game opens a five-game home slate for the Wonder Boys.
Due to inclement weather, the Party at the Plaza tailgating celebration has been canceled for the week, while the Military Appreciation Day and Band Member for a Day festivities have been postponed until the Nov. 3 matchup with East Central.
