GOLDEN SUNS CLOSE REGULAR SEASON WITH HENDERSON STATE ON SATURDAY

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns are set to host Henderson State on Saturday, April 14, for Tech's final women's tennis match of the 2018 regular season. The dual is scheduled to begin with doubles play at 3 p.m.

Arkansas Tech leads the all-time series against Henderson State, 26-24, dating back to when the series began in 1993. The Suns have won 18 consecutive duals against the Reddies, dating back to 2010. Tech won this season's earlier non-conference battle, 6-3.

Arkansas Tech (10-5, 3-2 GAC) is coming off a 5-4 victory over Harding on Thursday, putting the Golden Suns into a tie for third in the Great American Conference standings. Tech is currently ranked seventh in the Division II Central Region, and the Suns are 4-0 this spring in matches at Chartwells Women's Sports Complex.

Annabel Rowlands and Kami Ward lead Arkansas Tech with a 6-2 record in doubles play this spring, including an 8-5 victory in the No. 2 doubles match against Harding. Megan Bell and Teresa Sanchez combined for their second doubles win of the season in the No. 3 doubles match on Thursday. In singles, Rowlands has a team-high nine wins this spring, Sanchez and Kami Ward follow with eight victories. Against Harding on Thursday, Rowlands, Sanchez and Ward each earned three-set, come-from-behind victories in their individual matches. 

Henderson State (4-8, 2-3 GAC) has lost four of its last five duals, including an 8-1 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma on Thursday. The Reddies, who currently sit fourth in the GAC standings, are battling with the Golden Suns and Harding for the third seed in the Great American Conference Championships on April 19-21 in Bentonville, Ark.

Sydnee Parker and Annie Shannon have posted a 6-2 record this spring at the No. 1 doubles position for HSU. In singles, Shannon is 4-9 in No. 1 singles matches, while Lorish Puluspene leads the Reddies with six singles victories.
