WONDER BOYS HOST NO. 15 ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO THIS WEEKEND

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Following a 13-4 win over Lyon on Tuesday, Arkansas Tech will host No. 15 Arkansas-Monticello for a three-game series this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m. The series will conclude with a nine-inning game set for 1 p.m. on Sunday at Tech Field in Russellville.

In conjunction with the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys' baseball team, the Russellville Area Chamber of Commerce will host its 5th annual Bash at the Ballpark event during Saturday's doubleheader.

ALL-TIME SERIES

Arkansas Tech holds a 100-47 record all time against Monticello, a series that began in 1948. However, UAM has won six on the last seven meetings, including a three-game sweep last season as the Weevils beat the Wonder Boys 3-1, 3-1, and 7-3. 

SCOUTING THE WONDER BOYS

Arkansas Tech (24-13, 16-8 GAC) is coming off its third straight win after Tech recorded 15 hits, including a season-high nine extra-base hits to defeat Lyon 13-4 on Tuesday. The Wonder Boys currently sit in fourth in the Great American Conference standings. 

Shane Pollard led Tech with three hits in the win over Lyon. Pollard went 3-for-5 with a double, a run and a pair of runs batted in. Pollard was one of six Wonder Boys to record an extra-base hit. Over the past ten games, Pollard and Korey Thompson pace Tech in hits with 17 apiece, while Thompson and Riley Hickerson have batted in a team-high 14 runs in that same span. This season, Hickerson is batting a .364 in all 37 games, and he leads the team with 51 hits, 34 runs scored and 41 runs batted in.

Over the past four games Arkansas Tech has started Michael Mueller, Hayes Cox, Layton Robinson and Anthony Race on the mound. The Tech pitching staff have held the opposing team to a .272 batting average and have registered a 5.05 team earned-run average. Jared Droll has appeared in a team-high 12 games and leads the Wonder Boys with a 2.95 earned-run average, while Mueller leads the team in innings pitched with 63.0.

SCOUTING THE BOLL WEEVILS

No. 15 Arkansas-Monticello (26-10, 20-4 GAC) sits atop the GAC standings and has a three game lead over Southern Arkansas and Henderson State who are tied for second. The Weevils have won three of their last four games, but are coming off a 23-15 loss to Union University on Tuesday.  

Monticello leads the GAC in almost every offensive statistic as the Weevils are ranked first in batting average (.333), slugging percentage (.564), on base percentage (.428), runs scored (348), hits (413), runs batted in (321), doubles (94), home runs (62), total bases (699) and plate appearances (1487). The Weevils are also ranked in the top ten in Division II in several categories as well. Monticello is second in the country in home runs, third in slugging percentage, fourth in doubles, fifth in runs, sixth in on base percentage and seventh in batting average.

UAM has eight players batting over .300, led by Austin Brakebill with a .395 batting average. Sean Wagner leads Monticello in hits (54), home runs (10) and runs batted in (51), while Garrett Dodd leads the Weevils in slugging percentage (.693) and is tied with Brian Ray for the team lead in runs scored (45).

On the mound, UAM is led by the trio of Michael Harrison, Peyton Sullivan and Braden Chambers. Harrison has a 6-0 record with a 4.02 earned-run average in 56.0 innings. Sullivan has a 4-2 record with a 5.06 earned-run average in 42.2 innings, while Chambers has a 5-0 record with a 5.49 earned-run average in 57.1 innings of work.
