WONDER BOYS TRAVEL TO ARKADELPHIA TUESDAY FOR CONTEST WITH TIGERS

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech baseball team will look for its third win over Ouachita this season as the Wonder Boys travel to Arkadelphia, Ark. on Tuesday for a non-conference midweek contest with the Tigers. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.

ALL-TIME SERIES

Tech leads the all-time series 86-65-1 against Ouachita, which includes a 2-1 record against the Tigers this season. The Wonder Boys defeated Ouachita 7-6 and 11-0 and dropped a 6-4 contest earlier this season at Tech Field.

SCOUTING THE WONDER BOYS

Arkansas Tech (17-11, 11-7 GAC) currently sits in fourth place in the GAC standings, two games behind third-place Southern Arkansas. The Wonder Boys have won five of their last six games and are coming off a series win over Oklahoma Baptist. The Wonder Boys took the first two games, defeating the Bison 9-8 and 7-4, but fell 6-5 in the series finale.

The Wonder Boys are hitting .286 as a team this season, sixth-best average in the conference, while the Tech pitchers have posted a 4.80 ERA, which is fourth-best in the GAC. Last week, Korey Thompson led the Tech offense with seven hits and a .538 batting average. Thompson also had five RBIs, including a three-RBI game in the Wonder Boys 9-8 win over Oklahoma Baptist.

Hayes Cox and Michael Mueller lead the Wonder Boys in pitching. Cox is 4-2 in 45.2 innings this season, and he leads Tech's starters with a 3.15 ERA, seventh-best average in the GAC. Cox pitched a complete-game shutout in his only outing against Ouachita. He also struck out a career-high nine batters. Mueller has pitched a team-high 52.1 innings, and he ranks second in the GAC with 52 strikeouts. In his last outing, Mueller pitched 7.0 innings and struck out seven batters, marking the sixth time this season that he has recorded seven or more strikeouts in a game.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

Ouachita (10-20, 6-12 GAC) is ranked tenth in the GAC standings. The Tigers have lost four of their last five games and were swept by Southeastern Oklahoma State last weekend. The Savage Storm rolled past Ouachita, defeating OBU 6-5, 13-10 and 8-1.

The Tigers are tenth in the GAC with a .259 team batting average this season. OBU pitchers have posted a 5.92 ERA and have held opposing teams to a .270 batting average. Tyler Riebock paces the OBU offense with 36 hits and 26 RBIs. Riebeck also has a .319 batting average and has scored 15 runs this season. Brothers John Franklin Matros and Brandon Matros have been the most reliable pitchers for Ouachita. Brandon Matros has pitched 23.1 innings out of the bullpen and leads the team with a 2.31 ERA. John Franklin Matros leads the team and is ranked fourth in the GAC in innings pitched with 51.1. He also leads the team in strikeouts with 39 and has the top ERA of any Tiger starter at 3.16, which ranks eighth in the conference.
