WONDER BOYS TRAVEL TO ALVA FOR WEEKEND SERIES

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - After dropping two of three games in Weatherford to Southwestern Oklahoma, the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys baseball team will look to win their first conference series of the year as Tech travels to Alva, Okla. to take on Northwestern Oklahoma State. Tech and the Bulldogs will begin with a single game scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a noon doubleheader on Sunday.

ALL-TIME SERIES
The Wonder Boys hold a 12-2 advantage in the all-time series that began in 2013. Arkansas Tech has won five consecutive contests against NWOSU, including a three-game sweep last season in which the Wonder Boys outscored the Rangers 19-5.

SCOUTING THE WONDER BOYS
Arkansas Tech (6-5, 1-2 GAC) is coming off of a tough series in Weatherford as the Bulldogs took two of three from the Wonder Boys. Tech batted .269 as a team in the series, while holding SWOSU to a .265 team batting average. 

Riley Hickerson leads the Wonder Boys with 16 hits and a .410 batting average this season. He has recorded two hits in six games and has a current five-game hitting streak. Kyle Gibbs is batting .316 and has a current nine-game hitting streak. Gibbs has reach base safely in all 11 games he has played in. Cody Wescott leads the team in home runs with three and has batted in a team-high 12 runs.

Hayes Cox has started three games on the mound, resulting in a 2-1 record and a 1.74 earned-run average in 20.2 innings. Michael Mueller and Deagan Harte are a combined 1-3 this season, but have each struck out a team-high 21 batters. Jared Droll leads the bullpen with 5.2 innings pitched and a yet to surrender a run. 

SCOUTING THE RANGERS
Northwestern Oklahoma State (7-4, 2-1 GAC) enters the weekend after beating Harding in two of three games last weekend. The Rangers opened the series with a 6-2 win and after falling 9-1 in the second game, rallied to defeat the Bisons 25-11 in slugfest that saw the Rangers notch 26 hits with five home runs in the series finale.

Jorin Van Amstel has recorded a conference-leading 19 hits in 11 games, and he also leads the team with 29 total bases, 14 runs, two home runs and four doubles. Justin Bundy follows with a .429 batting average. Johnnuelle Ponce leads the team in runs batted in with 14.

Walker Wharton leads the Rangers on the mound with a perfect 3-0 record. Walker has recorded a 0.77 earned run average in 23.1 innings of work. Walker went seven innings with just two runs allowed in NWOSU's 6-2 win over Harding. Sean Rydell has struck out 15 batters in just 9.2 innings, and Ryan Marcoccia has produced a 1-1 record with a 4.35 earned-run average in 10.1 innings of work.
