WONDER BOYS HOST HARDING IN FIRST ROUND OF GAC TOURNAMENT

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech baseball begins postseason play in Russellville on Friday, with a best-of-three-game series against Harding in the opening round of the 2017 Great American Conference Baseball Championships. Game one is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, with game two set for 1 p.m. on Saturday. Game three, if necessary, will be played after game two.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Arkansas Tech leads the all-time series against Harding, 86-48. The Bisons defeated Tech in a non-conference battle earlier this season, but the Wonder Boys took two of three games from Harding in the final conference series of the regular season last weekend.
 
SCOUTING THE WONDER BOYS
Arkansas Tech (32-18, 24-9 GAC) earned the second seed for the GAC tournament after finishing the regular season four games behind first-place Southern Arkansas. The Wonder Boys won nine of 11 three-game conference series this season, including a 9-0 start to conference play for the first time in Arkansas Tech baseball history.
 
Tech finished the regular season ranked fourth in the GAC with a .283 team batting average. All-GAC First Team selection Dylan McDearmon leads the Wonder Boys with a .358 average, followed by Marcus Wilson's .317 batting average. Zach Klockowski led Tech with 12 home runs and 51 runs batted in, ranking second in the conference in both categories. In the month of April, Tech hit .295 as a team, led by McDearmon's .393 average and Cody Wescott's .379 average. In last weekend's three-game series against Harding, Zach Klockowski led all players with six hits, seven runs, four home runs and 13 runs batted in.
 
Unanimous All-GAC First Team selection Kyle Wilson leads Tech on the mound, finishing the regular season as the only starting pitcher in the GAC without a loss. Wilson posted an 8-0 record and a 2.22 earned-run average in 11 starts. Trent Armstrong follows with a 3.95 ERA in 13 starts. Quentin Bowling boasts a team-best 1.74 earned-run average in 31.0 innings pitched.
 
SCOUTING THE BISONS
Harding (22-27, 14-19 GAC) beat out Ouachita by one game to finish seventh the GAC regular season standings, taking two games from Arkansas-Monticello and one from Tech in the final two conference series of the season.
 
The Bisons hit .258 in the regular season, while Harding's opponents hit .287. Grant Guest leads the Bisons with a .333 average and 11 doubles, while Luke VanDover and Chris Taylor each batted in 29 runs. Jackson Ward leads Harding's starters with a 5.31 earned-run average. Austin Allen posted a 5.82 ERA in 13 regular-season starts.
