Tech vs. ECU Notes - "Spaceballs" Edition
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - With just three weeks remaining in the regular season, the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys find themselves in a four-way tie for first place in the Great American Conference.
Arkansas Tech will look to take one big step closer to the goal of a conference championship this Saturday, as the Wonder Boys (6-2, 6-2 GAC) head to Ada, Oklahoma for a date with East Central (2-6, 2-6). A 4 p.m. kickoff from Koi Ishto Stadium is scheduled.Â
The game will be carried locally on 102.3 FM (KCJC) in Russellville, with live audio, video, and statistics available at arkansastechsports.com.
No GAC offense has been more prolific than the Wonder Boys this season - Tech averages a league-best 43.-0 points per game. On the same note, Tech's defense has been the stingiest in the league as well, surrendering 19.6 points per contest. No other GAC squad averages more than 40 points per game this year or allows less than 20 points per game.Â
To take that step forward, the Wonder Boys will look to spoil the homecoming of an East Central team that is riding high and celebrating its homecoming after a 24-16 win at Henderson State in Arkadelphia.
Rayjohn Austin-Ramsey led ECU with 243 yards in the air on 14-of-22 passing with three touchdown strikes, while the GAC's leading rusher, Ontario Douglas racked up 72 yards on the ground. Three Tigers (Justin Hayden, Camnik Campbell, and RJ Williams) hit double figures in tackles in the win.Â
Meanwhile, the Wonder Boys will look to build upon an impressive performance in the win over Northwestern Oklahoma.
Tevin McKenzie became the first Wonder Boys player to have over 150 yards receiving in a game since the 2009 season with his 156-yard performance, catching two touchdown passes and rushing for another score.
Ty Reasnor was solid with 257 yards passing and two touchdowns, while a corps of Wonder Boys players racked up 297 yards on the ground.Â
The game kicks off an important three-game stretch that will see the Wonder Boys return home to face Southeastern Oklahoma and Harding in the final two weeks of the season.
