RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Two undefeated Great American Conference teams are set to battle in Tucker Coliseum on Thursday, as Arkansas Tech hosts the Ouachita Baptist Tigers for "Pack the Stands Night."
Both the Golden Suns and Tigers are 2-0 in the GAC and are coming off of three-set victories on Tuesday. Ouachita (10-2, 2-0 GAC) comes to Russellville riding a five-match win streak, including a 3-1 win over Arkansas at Monticello and a sweep of Southern Arkansas. Arkansas Tech's conference wins were over Southern Arkansas and Harding, both 3-0 victories.
The Tigers are led by an offense that is currently ranked 20
th in Division II in hitting percentage. Adrianna Nolly sits at the top of the GAC with a .358 attack percentage while also leading the Tigers with 3.18 kills per set. Stormi Leonard leads the charge on offense for Ouachita, averaging a GAC-best 10.67 assists per set.
As a team, Tech sits in third in the conference in hitting percentage and second in just conference matches. In GAC matches, the Golden Suns have held both opponents to hit just .024, the lowest opponent hitting percentage in the conference.
Lauren Rodemers also leads the GAC with a .429 attack percentage in conference matches.
Arkansas Tech (7-6, 2-0 GAC) is 43-17 all-time against Ouachita, including 17 consecutive wins dating back to 2007. The Golden Suns defeated the Tigers, 3-0, in all three matches last season.
The GAC contest is scheduled for 6 p.m., as Arkansas Tech invites all fans to attend "Pack the Stands Night" in attempt to break the school attendance record. Fans are also encouraged to bring jars of peanut butter to the match to donate to River Valley Food 4 Kids as part of Tech's Fight On Against Childhood Hunger initiative.
