RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys baseball team (13-18) will hit the road Tuesday for a pair of non-conference games, as the Wonder Boys head to Batesville, Ark. for a 1 p.m. doubleheader with Lyon College.
The Wonder Boys dropped two of three this past weekend at Southeastern Oklahoma and are looking to get back on the winning path against the Scots (18-14), who dropped two of three this past weekend at Central Baptist.
The Scots are hitting .305 as a team, and are led offensively by the bat of Dylan Wooten, who has hit .330 with team-highs in home runs (4) and RBIs (35). The Scots have racked up an average of seven runs a game, which has served as a boost to a talented pitching staff. Scots pitchers have only issued 49 walks on the season (as opposed to 115 for their opponents) while holding opposing hitters to a .279 batting average. Pitcher Tyler Tognarine has been the most effective starter for the Scots, posting a 5-2 record with a 3.16 ERA.
Arkansas Tech has been led offensively by the one-two punch of
Kaleb Warden and
Josh Watkins. Warden has a team-high .353 batting average with 19 RBIs, while Watkins, the reigning Great American Conference Player of the Week, has a .351 batting average and a .553 slugging percentage.
Lane Norwood has been the most effective reliever for the Wonder Boys this season, with a 2.70 ERA in 13.1 innings of work, while the tandem of
Trent Armstrong and
Zach Skelton have racked up the majority of innings as starters.
