RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech volleyball will look to stay atop the Great American Conference standings this weekend, as the Golden Suns host two conference contests in Tucker Coliseum. Tech welcomes Oklahoma Baptist to Russellville for a 6 p.m. match on Friday, before the Golden Suns take on Southern Nazarene on Saturday at 2 p.m.
As part of Tech's Fight On Against Childhood Hunger, fans are encouraged to bring canned meat, including tuna, chicken, sausages and spam, to both matches to benefit River Valley Food 4 Kids.
Friday's match against Oklahoma Baptist (13-10, 7-2 GAC) will break the tie for first place in the GAC. The Golden Suns (15-8, 7-2 GAC) last conference match ended in a loss to Southwestern Oklahoma, ending a seven-match win streak.
Tech currently ranks first in the GAC in assists, kills and opponent hitting during conference matches only. Individually,
Hunter Eshnaur leads Arkansas Tech and the GAC in kills and points per set during GAC contests.
Lauren Rodemers ranks second in hitting percentage, and
Madison Nagel is 10
th in digs per set.
Oklahoma Baptist has dropped its past two matches, including a conference loss to Arkansas-Monticello. The Lady Bison rank second in blocks during GAC play, and Cadyn Laing sits in fourth in hitting and blocks.
Saturday's match features Southern Nazarene (11-8, 6-3 GAC), currently tied for third in the conference standings. The Crimson Storm are coming off three straight victories, including three-set wins over Arkansas-Monticello and Southern Arkansas. SNU's three conference losses come against teams ranked in the top three in the conference.
In conference matches, Southern Nazarene leads the GAC in hitting percentage and is second in opponent hitting. Elyse Berlin ranks second in assists per set, while Abbey Bell is fourth in digs.
The Golden Suns are 1-0 all-time against Oklahoma Baptist, with the only match ending in a 3-0 win in 2015. Southern Nazarene is only of only two GAC schools with an all-time winning record against Tech, as the Crimson Storm have won seven of 12 matches. Tech defeated SNU in five sets, however, in 2015.
