RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — While unfriendly weather has kept the Arkansas Tech baseball team from playing for nearly two weeks, spring appears to be around the corner as the Wonder Boys welcome Augustana to Tech Field for a four-game Central Region series Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday's games will begin at 2 p.m., with Sunday's games beginning at noon.
The Wonder Boys (5-9) have not played a game since walking off with a 6-5 victory over Henderson State Feb. 22, but they're still topped by the Vikings (0-2), who opened up their season Jan. 31, back in Arkansas against Harding, dropping a doubleheader by scores of 22-0 and 1-0 before the next day's finale was wiped out. Tech Field will be a familiar setting for the Vikings, who trekked to Russellville last May for the regional tournament, falling 4-2 to the Wonder Boys in the opening round.
Tech features four batters hitting .300 or better so far this season, with
Keenan Jumper's .400 mark leading the way.
Bryan Heward is batting .340 with a home run, two doubles and a team-high 14 RBIs to go along with four stolen bases, while
Patrick Castleberry is swatting .311 with three homers, three doubles and eight RBIs.
Mark Vaughn rounds out the pack of .300 hitters with a .302 average, two doubles and four RBIs.
With the limited sample size, Augustana is led by Patrick Fiala, who is 4-for-7 in the Vikings' two games, and Lucas Wilber, who has a pair of base knocks in four tries. Starter Ryan Hamilton tossed 5 2/3 innings of two-hit ball in his go against Harding.
Live statistics for all four games will be available at
