Week 3 Game Notes

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys football team (1-1, 1-1 Great American Conference) will return to action on Saturday, squaring off against Southern Nazarene (0-2, 0-2 GAC) on Saturday in a 6 p.m. contest at Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field.

The Wonder Boys are looking to bounce back from a difficult loss at Southwestern Oklahoma, a loss that saw the Wonder Boys hold a 23-7 lead in the fourth quarter before Southwestern Oklahoma rattled off 20 unanswered points to hand Arkansas Tech its first loss of the 2014 season.

Wonder Boys head coach Raymond Monica knows that difficult losses such as last week's can often stick in the memories of a football team. The order of the day for his Wonder Boys is to take the necessary knowledge from the loss – and forget the rest.

"You learn from games like that," said Monica. "You try to correct the mistakes you've made and move on. You need a short-term memory. We watched film on Monday, met on the field on Monday, and then we're over it."

The Wonder Boys will look to apply the lessons learned against a Crimson Storm team that has not tasted victory since the 2012 season, when SNU downed College of Faith.

The Crimson Storm, in their first full year of membership in the Great American Conference, went 0-11 last year and has suffered a pair of tough losses to open the 2014 campaign. Southern Nazarene was bludgeoned by the Henderson State juggernaut in the opening week of the season, falling 72-7 to the Reddies, while playing a significantly closer contest last week against a very good Ouachita Baptist team, but ultimately falling 28-7.

The Wonder Boys and Crimson Storm have only met one other time, a 49-7 victory by Arkansas Tech last season in Bethany, Okla.
