RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys football team's 2014 season will come to an end this Saturday when the Wonder Boys head to Searcy, Ark. for the season finale against 16
th-ranked Harding. Kickoff from First Security Stadium is set for 2 p.m.
The Bisons are one of three teams in the GAC vying for a share of the conference title and a spot in the NCAA Division II playoffs. Harding (8-1) has not been defeated in regulation this season, dropping only an overtime decision to ninth-ranked Ouachita Baptist earlier this season.
The Tigers will face off against Henderson State in this week's Battle of the Ravine in Arkadelphia, in the other game that has major implications on the Division II playoff picture.
The Bisons bring a triple option attack that has allowed them to run the ball at will this season. Boasting the nation's second-ranked rushing attack, Harding averages 394.3 yards per game on the ground.
The running game will provide an opportunity for junior linebacker
Logan Genz, who enters play ranked third in school history with 338 career tackles. With 11 tackles, he can pass Stevie Van Pelt (348 tackles from 1987-90) for second place and with 15 can pass Mike Gurule (352 tackles from 1990-93) for the school record.
Genz, along with senior
Wesley McKinney have anchored a stellar defensive unit for the Wonder Boys this season that ranks third in the Great American Conference in yards allowed. Where the Wonder Boys have been their best is in stopping the run, as Arkansas Tech has allowed just 117.9 yards per game, just a fraction of a yard behind Henderson State (117.3) for second place.
In the matchup of a high-powered run offense against a stingy rush defense, the Wonder Boys will need to get the upper hand quickly. Harding couples the league's top scoring offense with the league's stingiest scoring defense, allowing a paltry 12.9 points per game. Additionally, the Bisons are the only team in the GAC to allow less than 300 yards per game on average, allowing just 277.8 yards per contest.
The game will be carried live on KWKK-FM (100.9) in Russellville.
