Emily Todd had a 14-kill performance with a match-best 22 digs,
Katie Huff had a 12-kill performance and
Kaylee Konsella added 10 as the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns volleyball team (15-5, 7-1 Great American Conference) held off a furious late charge from the Arkansas-Monticello Cotton Blossoms (8-9, 3-5 GAC), topping UAM 3-2 on Tuesday night at Steelman Fieldhouse.
"It just goes to prove that any night in the GAC, on the road, it's going to be a battle," said Golden Suns head coach
Kristy Bayer. "UAM came out and played an amazing match tonight. They were physical at the net. We were very physical at the net, but we played well when it mattered. Everyone is going to bring their top game when they play against us, and we have to learn that we can't let up at any time."
Tech won the opening set 25-19, but UAM knotted the match with a 25-18 decision in the second set. After Tech won 25-18 in the third, the Cotton Blossoms pulled the match even with a 25-15 win in the fourth set. Arkansas Tech closed out the win with a 15-9 win in the fifth set.
Sierra Nighswonger had a match-best 45 assists, while
Madison Nagel added 21 digs in the winning effort.
Kaci Jackson added 11, while
Katie Huff was a part of five of the Golden Suns' ten blocks, with one solo and four assisted.
Arkansas Tech returns to action on Thursday, October 9, hosting Southern Arkansas at Tucker Coliseum. A 6 p.m. match is scheduled.
