PITTSBURG, Kan. – The No. 8-seeded Arkansas Tech baseball team lost their opening round game of the 2026 Central Region Tournament against top-seed and host Pittsburg State by a score of 22-3 on Thursday.
With the loss, the Wonder Boys will now face elimination the remainder of their time at the regional. The first such game is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, May 15 against No. 4-seed Northwest Missouri who lost to No. 5-seed Augustana, 12-10 Thursday night.
Tech kept the high-powered offense of Pittsburg State off the scoreboard in the first inning, retiring the side in order. The Gorillas would score twice in the second and once in the third to go up 3-0. The Wonder Boys broke through on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning as a leadoff walk to
Tyler Sardelli came around to score on a two-out RBI single from
Weston Johnston.
Pitt State was able to answer back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 6-1. Tech got the game within four runs in the top of the fifth on a leadoff home run by
Luke Caussey. The third and final run of the game for Tech came in the top of the eighth as Sardelli scored on a wild pitch.
Between the Caussey homer and second run scored by Sardelli, the Pitt State offense continued to push across runs, adding four in the bottom of the fifth, two in the sixth, nine in the seventh and one in the eighth.
