RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech softball team closed out their slate of home games for the 2026 season on Monday with a doubleheader against Northeastern State. The Golden Suns would split the twin-bill, winning the first game 2-1 in walk-off fashion and then dropping the second game 1-0.
GAME ONE
In the opener, the Golden Suns put immediate pressure on NSU by loading the bases with one out thanks to a trio of walks. A fourth walk in the inning taken by
Caroline Wilhelm forced in
Anna Winkfield, giving Tech a 1-0 lead.
The RiverHawks managed to limit the damage to just that one run as they got the next two batters out.
That 1-0 score held until the top of the seventh with the RiverHawks tied the game on a leadoff homer. In the bottom half, however, it was not long at all before the Golden Suns put themselves in scoring position as Winkfield doubled down the left field line on the first pitch she saw.
Shortly thereafter,
Miya Curry sacrificed Winkfield over to third, putting the potential winning run 60 feet away. A walk was then issued to
Aubree Jones to put runners on the corners with one out.
Aly White, who was the starting pitcher in the circle, swung at the first pitch she saw and hit a sinking liner that got down in shallow right field for the game-winning hit.
GAME TWO
The second game was a scoreless draw through the first six innings of play before Northeastern State caught a break and scored an unearned run with two outs in the top of the seventh.
That would be the lone run scored in the game as the Golden Suns were retired in order in the bottom of the inning to end the game.
