Golden Suns take two from Southwestern Oklahoma

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – In the final weekend series of the season, the Arkansas Tech softball team already has the series in hand with one more to play as they took both games of Saturday's doubleheader, winning game one, 5-2, the second game, 3-0.

With that DH sweep and other results around the conference, the Golden Suns will slot no lower than the No. 3-seed in the upcoming GAC Tournament and have an opportunity to win the conference out-right with a win tomorrow and a Southern Arkansas win at home against Oklahoma Baptist.

GAME ONE
In the opener, the Golden Suns jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first. The first of those runs was a leadoff home run to left-centerfield by Anna Winkfield. Later in the inning, Aly White helped her own cause and doubled home Aubree Jones, who doubled in the at-bat prior.

The Bulldogs managed to score a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 2-all.

That score held until the top of the fourth when the Golden Suns got a one-out home run from Caroline Wilhelm. An inning later, Breanna Phillips hit a leadoff homer to give Tech a 4-2 lead. The run streak continued into the sixth as Destiney Madewell had a clutch two-out RBI single to score White, who doubled to lead off the inning.

Emily Richarde, who came on in relief of White to start the third inning, made that 5-2 score hold up as she put the finishing touches on her 11th win of the season.

GAME TWO
Another two-run top of the first inning got the Golden Suns in control of the game. This time it was White and Wilhelm with RBIs as they went back-to-back with RBI doubles. White's double drove in Winkfield, who led the game off with a hy-by-pitch.

SWOSU would put together a two-out rally but were ultimately held scoreless as Ainslee Moore worked out of the inning unscathed.

The third and final run the Golden Suns would score in the game came in the top of the third as Jones hit a solo home run to right.

Moore proceeded to shut down the Bulldogs the rest of the way and earned her second complete game shutout of the season. In the start against SWOSU, Moore scattered six hits, walked one and struck out eight.

UP NEXT
The Golden Suns will now prepare for their regular season finale on Sunday. First-pitch is scheduled for Noon at SWOSU.
