SEARCY, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech baseball team opened up their final conference series of the regular season on Thursday night at Harding and despite scoring first, eventually dropped the game by a run, 4-3.
That initial run by the Wonder Boys came in the top of the first inning as they cashed in a leadoff walk to
Derek Rockett. After his walk, Rockett stole second and then advanced to third on a single through the right side by
Cole Dawson.
Tyler Sardelli then drove in Rockett on a RBI groundout.
Kirby Jenkins would follow with a single, but a play at the plate cut down a second run and shifted the momentum to Harding.
In the bottom of the inning, Harding responded back and took the lead, 2-1, on a two-out, two-run home run to left field.
That 2-1 score held until the bottom of the seventh as it was a classic game one duel between starting pitchers.
In that bottom of the seventh, Harding scored twice and both of those runs proved to be extremely important as Tech rallied in the top of the ninth and scored a pair of runs on a one-out, two-RBI double from
Brendyn Bard. Despite having the potential tying run in scoring position with less than two outs, Harding managed to retire the next two batters to end the game.
With inclement weather expected on Friday, the series will resume and conclude with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. First-pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
