SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Arkansas Tech baseball team opened their three-game series on the road at Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday night and after scoring twice in the top of the ninth to tie the game, Tech would surrender a run in the bottom half to lose 4-3.
The Wonder Boys opened the game strong, scoring a run in the top of the first as
Tyler Sardelli doubled home
Derek Rockett, who led the game off with a first-pitch single up the middle. Oklahoma Baptist answered right back in their half of the first and scored a pair of runs on four hits to take a 2-1 lead.
That score held until the bottom of the seventh when the Bison scored a run on a sacrifice fly.
Trailing 3-1 heading into the top of the ninth, the Wonder Boys got the first two batters to reach as
Weston Johnston drew a leadoff walk followed by a hit-by-pitch taken by
Tommy Caya.
Brendyn Bard then sac bunted them both up 90-feet. After the first out of the inning was recorded, the Wonder Boys got the big hit from Rockett as he singled to right, scoring both Johnston and Caya, tying the game at 3-all.
In the bottom of the inning, the Wonder Boys got the first two batters out and were one out away from sending the game into extra innings, but the Bison extended the inning with a double down the left field line. They then drew a walk to put two on ahead of the game-winning single to center.
The Wonder Boys will look to bounce back and turn their attention toward the final two games of the series, which will take place as a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
