JACKSON, Tenn. – A couple of big innings by Union with the last coming in the bottom of the eighth helped propel the Bulldogs to a 10-9 win against Arkansas Tech on Tuesday afternoon.
The Wonder Boys got out to the first lead of the game with a solo home run from
Tyler Sardelli in the top of the third. An inning later, the Wonder Boys scored five runs on three hits to go up 6-0. David Ossana,
Cole Dawson and
Levi Martin all had RBIs in the inning while
Drew Vega and
Kirby Jenkins scored on wild pitches.
Union answered back with a fury in their half of the fourth by scoring five runs on five hits to suddenly cut the Tech down to a run, 6-5.
The Wonder Boys got a run back in the next half inning on a RBI groundout by Sardelli.
Neither team would score in the sixth or seventh innings, but the Wonder Boys broke that scoreless streak in the eighth with two runs. Both runs scored on a two-RBI single by
Tommy Caya. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs had their second big inning of the game in the bottom of the eighth.
In that frame, Union would score five runs flip a four-run deficit into a one-run lead. They would ride that momentum into the top of the ninth where they retired the Wonder Boys in order to secure the come-from-behind win.
The Wonder Boys will now turn their attention to this coming weekend where they will be at home against Ouachita Baptist for a three-game series. That series is slated to start at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 27.
