RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech baseball team emphatically put the finishing touches on a three-game series sweep over East Central on Saturday with an offensively dominant performance across both ends of their doubleheader.
Over the two games (14 innings total), the Wonder Boys scored 31 runs on 30 hits.
GAME ONE
In the opening game, Tech got their offense rolling in the second inning as they scored four runs on three hits. An inning later, the Wonder Boys added two runs to go up 6-0.
Tech then followed with a seven-run inning in the fourth to completely break the game open and take a commanding 13-0 lead.
ECU would score their lone run of the game in top of the sixth, bringing the score to its final of 13-1 as the game ended early in seven innings.
GAME TWO
Just like the first game, the second game of Saturday's doubleheader saw the Wonder Boys start their scoring in the second inning. This time, Tech scored three runs on four hits. All three of those runs scored on a three-run home run by
Tommy Caya.
The Wonder Boys matched that score output in the third, once more going up 6-0 through three innings.
Again their breakout inning offensively was in the fourth, this time, the Wonder Boys scored 11 runs.
ECU scored a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to account for their three runs in the game. Tech scored their 18
th and final run in the bottom of the sixth.
An extra bright spot in the blowout was the final half inning as it was pitched by
Brady Laird. The redshirt junior made his collegiate debut on the mound and pitched a perfect 1-2-3 inning with a pair of strikeouts.
UP NEXT
The Wonder Boys will now prepare for a midweek game on the road this coming Tuesday as they will play at Union. First-pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
