ADA, Okla. – A furious fourth quarter comeback effort by the Arkansas Tech women's basketball team fell just short on Saturday as the Golden Suns lost on the road at East Central, 62-60.
The first half was closely played as there were seven lead changes and eight tie scores through the first 20 minutes of action. After the score was tied at the end of the first quarter at 11-all, East Central broke a 26-all tie at the end of the second quarter to go up 28-26 heading into halftime.
The Tigers would get going offensively in the third quarter and out-scored Tech 23-16 to take a nine-point lead into the final quarter. In the fourth, the Golden Suns battled to close the gap and got as close as a single point on a trio of occasions down the stretch.
All three of those instances occurred with the game clock under two minutes. Unfortunately, even as the Golden Suns were applying pressure, the Tigers would immediately respond to Tech getting within a point with a trip to the foul line where they managed to keep their separation and eventually come away with the two-point win.
Three Golden Suns scored in double figures against ECU with
Logan Young and
Jadah Pickens both scoring a baker's dozen.
Perina Leime rounded out double-figure scoring with 12 points.
The Golden Suns will now prepare to return home for their final home game of the regular season. That game will take place on Thursday, February 26 at 5:30 p.m. against Henderson State. Prior to the game, the Golden Suns will honor the five seniors on this year's team.
