RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – A total of 19 years patrolling the sidelines as the head women's basketball coach at Arkansas Tech and the final game inside Tucker Coliseum for
Dave Wilbers came on Thursday night as Tech played Henderson State. Unfortunately, on what was an otherwise incredible night honoring Coach Wilbers, the Golden Suns would fall short to the Reddies, 94-88.
With the result of Thursday night's game, Wilbers officially closes out his tenure inside Tucker Coliseum with a 215-51 record and a winning percentage of 81%.
Thursday night's game started with Henderson State coming out of the gate on fire as they built up an 11-point lead, 13-2, by the 6:51 mark of the first quarter. The lead then reached a high point of 14 points for the Reddies by the 5:40 mark, but a furious stretch by the Golden Suns over the next two minutes or so of the game, brought them within two points of the Henderson lead, 20-18.
By the 2:06 mark, Tech was in the lead for the first time, 23-22, on a layup from
Logan Young. The Reddies had an immediate answer with a three-pointer on the other end to regain the lead. They would end up taking a five-point lead into the second quarter.
The Reddies would maintain a lead throughout the entirety of the second quarter as the Golden Suns' offense was held under 30% shooting overall for the period. Despite that, it was just a six-point game, 45-39, at halftime.
That ended up being enough of a cushion for the Reddies as they stayed in the lead throughout the entire second half, eventually finishing with a six-point win, 94-88.
The Golden Suns had four players score in double figures with Young leading the team with 22 points. Senior
Perina Leime was next with 18 points followed by 14 from senior
Jadah Pickens.
Dessie Lancaster rounded out double-figure scoring with 10 points. Lancaster also posted a double-double with 11 rebounds.
Tech will now look to solidify their seeding in the upcoming GAC Tournament as they play their final game of the regular season on Saturday afternoon at Southern Arkansas.
