DURANT, Okla. – The Arkansas Tech women's basketball team suffered setback on the road at Southeastern Oklahoma on Thursday night, falling to the Savage Storm, 74-56.
Southeastern Oklahoma opened up the game on an 8-0 run and led by as much as 11 points at the 3:36 mark of the first quarter. The Golden Suns would close that gap down to four points, 17-13, by the end of the period as they went on a 7-0 run.
That run extended into the second quarter as
Perina Leime hit a three-pointer on the first possession of the quarter, pulling Tech within a point of the Southeastern lead, 17-16. By the 8:11 mark, Tech was in the lead for the first time, 20-19, on a jumper from
Logan Young.
The lead then changed hands on consecutive possessions as the Golden Suns and Savage Storm traded baskets. By the 5:24 mark, the Golden Suns achieved the largest lead they would gain of the night, four points, 27-23. Just over two minutes of game time later, Southeastern reclaimed the lead after they broke a 27-all tie.
That was the start of an 8-0 run that gave the Savage Storm the momentum heading into halftime.
Southeastern was able to keep the momentum and score advantage on their side the remainder of the game, eventually taking an 18-point victory.
The Golden Suns had only player reach double figures in scoring but had 12 different players score in the game. Leime was the leading scorer with 13. She was 5-of-9 overall from the field and added six rebounds.
Tech will now look to bounce back on Saturday as they remain on the road and will play at East Central. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
