BETHANY, Okla. – The Arkansas Tech football team bounced back from a heart-breaking defeat on the road a week ago at nationally-ranked Henderson State with a dominating 47-3 victory on the road at Southern Nazarene on Saturday afternoon.
In the game, the Wonder Boys would eclipse 500 yards of total offense for the second time this year, registering a season-high 503 yards. The offensive attack by the Wonder Boys was nearly a perfect balance as they ran for 233 yards and passed for 266. They were also extremely efficient averaging 8.2 yards per play on the 61 offensive snaps they took.
Scoring got started almost immediately for Tech as they found the endzone on their second play from scrimmage after receiving the opening kickoff. That score would be a 73-yard pass and catch from
Carter Hensley to
Trey Nelson.
Southern Nazarene then got a big return on the ensuing kickoff and started their initial possession near midfield. The Crimson Storm then methodically got the ball to the Tech 11-yardline before being forced to settle for a 28-yard field goal on the 11
th play of the drive.
That field goal would end up being the only points the Crimson Storm would manage against the Tech defense. By the end of the game, the Wonder Boys allowed just 162 yards of total offense with 148 of those coming on the ground. Against the pass, Tech held SNU to 14 yards on 2-of-6 passing and came away with an interception.
The Wonder Boys would also recover a pair of fumbles with one being a 39-yard scoop-and-score by
Sean Berry, who had a 49-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown last week at Henderson. Berry's defensive touchdown against SNU came early in the second quarter and was on the heels of Tech's third touchdown of the game, a one-yard run by
Dominic Feliciano.
The touchdown prior to Feliciano was a 32-yard pass from Hensley to
Tracy Daniels.
By halftime, the Tech lead was 35-3 after
Myles West scored a 9-yard run with just over a minute left in the second quarter.
Kollin Robinson got in on the scoring late in the third quarter as he scored on a 7-yard run. The Wonder Boys would go on to score six points in the fourth quarter with all six coming off a pair of field goals made by
Fernando Ventura.
The Wonder Boys will now prepare to play their final home game of the season this coming Saturday and will take on Oklahoma Baptist. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Simmons Bank Field at Thone Stadium.
