Golden Suns knock down double-digit three-pointers in 92-84 win at Oklahoma Baptist

Freshman Logan Young scores over 30 points for a second-straight game

SHAWNEE, Okla. – After making a combined 36 three-pointers in their first two games, the Arkansas Tech women's basketball team made five less than that over their next eight games, totaling 31. On Thursday night on the road at Oklahoma Baptist, the three-point shot was back for the Golden Suns as they knocked down 12 to help propel them to a 92-84 win.

Five different Golden Suns made a three-pointer in the game with four having multiple makes from long range. Current GAC Offensive Player of the Week, Logan Young, led the team on Thursday with four made three-pointers. She would go on to set a new single-game scoring high with 32 points. It was the second-straight game that Young had scored 30 or more points.

Madelyn Atkins was a key contributor off the bench in Tech's three-point shooting as she made three in just nine minutes of action. Shalyn Lyle and AbbiGrace Cunningham each made two three-pointers.

A third of Tech's made three-pointers in the game came in the first quarter, but the Golden Suns trailed the entirety of the period and were down as much as 11 points as Oklahoma Baptist shot over 52% from the field and made six of eight free throws.

Trailing by eight heading into the second quarter, the Golden Suns flipped the script in the second quarter and out-scored the Bison 25-19 to and trailed by just two points at the break. In the period, Tech knocked down a trio of three-pointers to push their total to seven.

Early action in the third quarter was back-and-forth, but ironically, the Golden Suns took control with little use from the three as they made just one that period. The one make was a big one as it gave Tech a two-point lead, 56-64, with 6:12 left. The Golden Suns would go on to build out a lead as large as seven points in the third quarter thanks to an overall efficient 10-of-16 shooting from the floor and 6-of-6 success from the free throw line.

Tech would lead the entirety of the fourth quarter and were able to stave off a strong push by Oklahoma Baptist thanks to four makes from three-point range in the quarter and four makes from the charity stripe as well.

The Golden Suns will now prepare for a road game at Southern Nazaren on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. from the Sawyer Center in Bethany.
