HOUSTON, Texas – The Arkansas Tech baseball team lost their second game of opening weekend on Saturday as part of the Houston Winter Invitational, falling to (rv) Rollins by a score of 12-2 in eight innings.
Rollins was first to score in the game, plating a run in the bottom of the first, the Wonder Boys would answer right back and tie the score with a run of their own in the top of the second on a RBI single by
Levi Martin.
Kirby Jenkins led that inning off with a single to center and then was at third base during the next at-bat as he stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the Rollins catcher.
Rollins got the next two hitters in the Wonder Boys lineup out ahead of Martin's clutch single. Martin would go on to get hits in each of his next two plate appearances as he doubled in the fourth and hit a solo home run to lead off the top of the seventh, leaving him a triple shy of the cycle.
Unfortunately, Martin would not get a chance to go for cycle as the Tars had another big inning in the bottom of the eighth and scored five runs to force the 10-run rule. Martin was due up second in the top of the ninth for the Wonder Boys had the game gone that far.
The five-run eighth broke a streak of four scoreless frames by Rollins after they grabbed control and broke the 1-all tie with six runs (one earned) in the bottom of the third.
The Wonder Boys will now prepare for their third and final game of the 2026 Houston Winter Invitational as they will take on Alabama-Huntsville on Sunday afternoon. First-pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. from Daikin Park in Houston.
