ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech softball team lost by one run, 3-2, in the series finale on the road at Henderson State on Monday afternoon.
The Golden Suns got on the board first with a two-out rally in the top of the first.
Anna Winkfield sparked the rally with a double to left field.
Maycie Hardy then drove in Winkfield as she beat out an infield single to second base.
Unfortunately, the Reddies came out on the attack early and scored twice on three hits in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead.
Neither team would score until the fifth inning. In the top half, the Golden Suns pushed across a single run as Hardy came through with another clutch two-out RBI to tie the game at two-all. Prior to that,
Sadie Turner had hit a one-out double and then got to third on a single from
Kacie Gibbins. A popout was registered by the Reddies in the next at-bat ahead of the RBI knock from Hardy.
Again, however, Henderson had an answer in their half and scored a run to go up 3-2.
The Golden Suns would have the potential tying run in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings, but were unable to bring home the run.
Tech will now have a quick turnaround as they are back in action on Tuesday night to complete the conference series with nationally-ranked Harding. First-pitch from the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex is scheduled for 5 p.m.
