RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Completing their three-game conference series that started with a doubleheader at Harding back on March 11, the Arkansas Tech and Harding softball teams met for a single game on Tuesday night out at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex.
Having dropped both ends of the previously played doubleheader at Harding, the Golden Suns salvaged a game in the series with an upset win over the No. 10-ranked Lady Bisons on Tuesday, 2-0.
The entirety of the game was played at a blistering pace as the total time of game clocked in right at an hour and a half, and for about 1:15 of that, the Golden Suns and Lady Bisons were gripped in a scoreless tie as starters
Alexis Findley and Brooklyn Gobble were dueling it out.
After neither team had scored through the first five innings, Findley and the Golden Suns put up another zero in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of that inning, the Golden Suns finally broke the scoreless tie with a pair of runs on three hits.
Neveah Wilson had the first hit of the inning as she doubled with one out the other way out to left.
Anna Winkfield then wasted no time in driving her in as she swung at the first pitch and singled to right-centerfield.
After the second out, Winkfield got to second on a wild pitch.
Sadie Turner then walked. On the very next pitch,
Maycie Hardy singled up the middle to score Winkfield from second.
In the top of the seventh, the Lady Bisons quickly put pressure on the Golden Suns with consecutive singles to start the frame. Prior to that, Harding had just one hit. Despite the pressure, Findley bore down and got a flyout and then a game-ending double play.
In the shutout, Findley scattered three hits, hit one, walked none and struck out six.
The Golden Suns will now look to keep the momentum going this weekend at home against Southern Nazarene. The three-game series is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. on Friday night.
