RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech softball team won the first game of their Friday doubleheader against Southwestern Oklahoma 2-0 behind a complete-game shutout from
Alexis Findley, but dropped the second game 3-2 to split the twin-bill.
GAME ONE
In the opener, the Golden Suns cracked the scoreboard in the third inning on a solo home run by
Lexi Gorniak. That run would prove to be more than enough for Findley to secure her 12
th win of the season, but for good measure, the Golden Suns added a run of insurance in the fourth on a sac fly by
Caroline Wilhelm.
For Findley, the senior right-hander would scatter five hits, all singles, walked none and struck out four.
GAME TWO
The Golden Suns were first to score in the second game as well with a single run in the second inning on a RBI single up the middle by Wilhelm.
In the fourth, however, Southwestern Oklahoma scored their first runs of the day and did so with a two-run home run to take the lead 2-1. That score held until the top of the seventh when the Bulldogs scored a run.
That run proved to be difference as Tech was able to score a run of their own in the bottom of the seventh, but SWOSU was able to hold on for the one-run win.
UP NEXT
The Golden Suns and Bulldogs will decide the series winner on Saturday afternoon as the finale will start at Noon. At 11:30 a.m., the Golden Suns will hold their Senior Day ceremony.
