JACKSON, Tenn. – The Arkansas Tech baseball team played their final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday afternoon and came away with a 9-3 win on the road at Union.
The Wonder Boys were first on the scoreboard with two runs in the top of the first thanks to
Tyler Sardelli scoring on a double play and then
Cole Dawson scoring on a single up the middle from
Sawyer Duddleston. Both Sardelli and Dawson singled in their at-bats earlier in the inning.
Union would answer back in their half of the first inning, however, and scored three runs on four hits to take a 3-2 lead. The Wonder Boys regained the lead in the top of the third with two runs on three hits.
Brendyn Bard and
Joe Kinneberg had RBI singles in the frame.
An inning later, the Wonder Boys added two more runs thanks to a clutch two-out, two-run double down the left field line by Duddleston.
Tech would go on to add three more runs of insurance over the rest of the game with a run in the sixth and two more in the eighth. The run in the sixth saw Sardelli score on an error by the Union catcher. In the eighth,
Luke Ray scored on a bunt single and error in the Dawson at-bat. Later in the frame, Sardelli scored his fourth run of the game as Duddleston drew a bases loaded walk.
The Wonder Boys would use seven pitchers to get through the mid-week game.
Ashton Greenlee made the start, but the first reliever,
Turner Seelinger, got the win as he pitched 2.0 innings of scoreless baseball. Seelinger was the first of six relievers to keep Union scoreless.
Simon Murray and
Jaxon McTyre handled the final three innings and combined for six of the 10 strikeouts recorded by Wonder Boys' pitching.
The Wonder Boys will now prepare for their final series of the regular season this weekend. In that series, Tech will face Harding. Both will be playing for a shot at least a share of a regular season conference championship.
