RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech baseball team pushed their winning streak out to seven games on Tuesday as they came away with a 14-10 win against Union in a mid-week game.
The first three innings played of the game were back-and-forth and tumultuous as there was 17 runs scored combined between Tech and Union. Union would get things going with two runs in the top of the first, but the Wonder Boys answered back with three in the bottom half.
After neither team scored in the second, Union struck for five runs on five hits in the top of the third to take a 7-3 lead. The Wonder Boys would match that hit total themselves in the bottom of the inning, but were able to score two more runs than Union did as Tech scored seven in the frame to take a 10-7 lead.
After that wild start, the Wonder Boys were able to settle the game down from a pitching standpoint and kept Union scoreless until the top of the eighth.
Jonah Prokott was the reliver that got things settled in. Coming in to start the fourth, Prokott pitched 3.0 scoreless innings and scattered two hits.
While Union was being held in check on their offensive end, the Wonder Boys would add four runs of insurance with a run in the fifth and three in the seventh to give them a 14-7 lead. Union would score three runs in the top of the eighth to bring the game to its final of 14-10.
The Wonder Boys will now prepare for a second mid-week game at home as they are slated to take on Arkansas-Monticello in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon. First-pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
