DURANT, Okla. – The Arkansas Tech softball team won both ends of their Saturday afternoon doubleheader on the road at Southeastern Oklahoma, winning the opener, 4-1 and the second game, 8-2.
GAME ONE
The opening game of the day was an old-fashioned pitcher's duel as it was a scoreless tie through four innings of play.
The Golden Suns got things started offensively in the game in the top of the fifth with a two-out rally. After the first two outs were recorded that inning,
Kacie Gibbins extended the frame with a double to left-centerfield.
Anna Winkfield then forced her home with a RBI triple to right-centerfield.
Caroline Wilhelm immediately followed that up with a RBI single, scoring Winkfield.
Tech then doubled their lead to 4-0 with two more runs in the top of the seventh. That inning started with an infield single to second by
Neveah Wilson. Wilson then was able to make it to third on a sacrifice bunt from
Sadie Turner. Gibbins followed with a RBI double to left-center to score Wilson. A batter later, Gibbins scored on a RBI single from Winkfield.
Southeastern would score their lone run of the game in the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run. That would be the only blemish on the stat line for Tech starting pitcher
Alexis Findley. In 7.0 innings, Findley scattered three hits, allowed one run, walked one and struck out three.
GAME TWO
The second game did not take long for the runs to start scoring as Tech plated a run in the top of the first while Southeastern scored two in their half. The run for the Golden Suns in the first was driven in by Wilhelm on a double to right-centerfield.
The Golden Suns would quickly get that second run back from Southeastern on a
Maycie Hardy solo home run in the top of the second. An inning later, Tech broke the two-all tie with two runs in the third. The first run scored was a solo home run from Turner while the second was a Wilhelm RBI single to left.
Tech would add single runs in the fourth and fifth innings and then capped their scoring with two runs in the sixth.
The run in the fourth was driven in by Wilson, while the run in the fifth was on a RBI single from Hardy. The final two runs were scored on a double from Wilhelm
