RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech baseball team split their doubleheader at home against Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday, losing the opening 11-5 and coming back to win the second game 11-4.
GAME ONE
In the opener, Southeastern jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a tally in the top of the first. That score lasted until the top of the fourth when Southeastern scored four runs in the frame to take a 5-0 lead.
The Wonder Boys were able to answer back in their half of the fourth with two runs thanks to a RBI double from
Christian Olea and a RBI single by
Kolby Webb. Unfortunately, the Savage Storm came back a half inning later and stuck for five runs to take a 10-2 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Webb recorded his second RBI with a sacrifice fly, but a leadoff homer in the top of the seventh pushed the lead back out eight for Southeastern.
Tech would score twice in the bottom of the frame to bring the score to its final of 11-5. Both runs that inning were scored on a two-RBI single up the middle by
Nolan Self.
GAME TWO
The second game saw Southeastern again score first, this time doing so with a pair of runs in the top of the first. That would be a majority of their offense as the Wonder Boys' pitching held SE scoreless over the next five innings, allowing their offense to take charge of the game.
That offensive attack by Tech started in the bottom of the first on the strength of an opposite field solo home run by
Cole Dawson. An inning later, Dawson collected a second RBI, this time with a double to left-centerfield.
Simon Murray then followed that with a two-RBI single up the middle to give Tech a lead they would not relinquish.
After scoring a run in the third on a fielder's choice RBI for
Luke Ray, the Wonder Boys put the game essentially away in the fourth as they scored six runs on six hits to take an 11-2 lead. In that inning,
Christian Olea started scoring with a RBI double to left-centerfield.
Sawyer Duddleston then followed with a two-RBI double to centerfield. Two batters later,
Nolan Self collected a RBI hit.
In the next at-bat,
Kirby Jenkins, who previously singled in the inning, scored on a balk. Following a walk and a hit-by-pitch, the sixth and final run of the inning scored on a wild pitch.
Southeastern would score twice in the top of the seventh to bring the score to its final of 11-4.
