TIPPING OFF
The final week of the regular season has arrived, and the Arkansas Tech men's basketball team is already playing tournament basketball as they face must-win scenarios over their final two games in pursuit of qualifying for the conference tournament next weekend.
 
First among those games is a road contest at Henderson State this coming Thursday night.
 
This will be 182nd meeting all-time between Tech and Henderson State. In a series that dates back to 1930, Tech and Henderson have played each other multiple times a year consistently as conference rivals. Overall, Henderson holds a 94-87 advantage in the series.

TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys are 10-16 overall and 7-13 in the GAC. They are coming off a 70-47 blowout win at home against East Central this past Sunday to keep their chances of qualifying for the upcoming GAC Tournament alive. Tech now faces a scenario in which they must win out over their final two games as well as get some help from around the league to keep their chances going.
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys average 65.5 ppg and rank 11th in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank first in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 66.0 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are 11th in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .428 (612-of-1,431) and allow their opponents to shoot at a .428 mark (595-of-1,391) to rank second.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .298 (158-of-531) to rank 11th in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .346 (192-of-555) to rank seventh. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .710 as a team (321-of-452) to rank ninth.
 
Individually, the Wonder Boys have two players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Cassius Brooks and his 18.8 ppg. Carlos Ramsey Jr. is next and rounds out double-digit scoring at 10.9 ppg.
 
Seybian Sims is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 7.5 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Kade Shaffer leads the team and is averaging 3.5 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Wonder Boys are led in steals by Brooks at 1.7 steals per game and in blocks by Albright Obode at 0.7 blocks per game.
 
The Wonder Boys are coached by Mark Downey, who is in his fifth season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.
 
In his time at Tech, which is now in its ninth season overall, Downey has amassed a 145-110 record. Overall, Downey is in his 18th season as a head coach and has career record of 311-216.
 
SCOUTING THE REDDIES
Henderson State is 16-10 overall and 12-8 in conference play. The Reddies have won three-straight games and have clinched a spot in the upcoming GAC Tournament. They are currently in fifth-place and could jump all the way up to second after the final week of the regular season.
 
Statistically, the Reddies average 79.3 ppg and rank third in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Reddies rank ninth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 75.2 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Reddies are second in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .484 (773-of-1,597) and allow their opponents to post a .451 mark (670-of-1,486) to rank ninth.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Reddies shoot at a clip of .326 (139-of-427) to rank ninth in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .357 (211-of-591) to rank 10th. From the free throw line, the Reddies shoot .617 as a team (376-of-609) to rank 12th.
 
Individually, the Reddies have three players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Nehikhare Igiehon and his 15.3 ppg. Matthew Mayes is next 12.0 ppg followed by Rondae Hill who rounds out double-figure scoring at 11.8 ppg.
 
Igiehon is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 6.8 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Hill leads the team and is averaging 2.9 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Reddies are led in steals by Mayes at 2.7 steals per game and in blocks by Igiehon at 1.0 blocks per game.
 
The Reddies are coached by Jimmy Elgas, who is in his 10th season at Henderson State. In his time at HSU, Elgas is 148-129.
