TIPPING OFF
After spending the opening weekend of the season on the road, Arkansas Tech men's basketball team is set to play its first home game of the year on Thursday night as they will take on No. 3-ranked Dallas Baptist.
 
The Patriots have been to eight NCAA Regional Tournaments since 2015-16, and advanced to the NCAA DII Final Four last season.
 
This will be fourth meeting all-time and second-consecutive between Tech and DBU. Tech leads the series 2-1. Dallas Baptist collected their first win in the series last season at home.

TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys are off to an 0-2 start to their season after dropping both of their games opening weekend as part of the GAC/MIAA crossover challenge. In the opening weekend, the Wonder Boys lost to Missouri Southern, 80-70, and then followed up with a 95-87 loss to Newman.
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys average 78.5 ppg and rank fourth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank 11th in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 87.5 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are sixth in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .448 (56-of-125). Their opponents are shooting at a .462 mark (54-of-117) to rank 10th.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .283 (17-of-60) to rank seventh in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .386 (22-of-57) to rank 11th. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .667 as a team (28-of-42) to rank seventh.
 
Individually, the Wonder Boys have three players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Sam Bradford and his 19.5 ppg. David Elliott IV is next in scoring at 18.0 pgg while Donyae May rounds out double-figure scoring at 16.5 ppg.
 
May and Devin Foster are leading the team in rebounding and are averaging 5.0 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, May leads the team and is averaging 3.0 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Wonder Boys are led in steals by Elliott IV at 4.0 steals per game and in blocks by Reggie Reinhardt at 1.0 blocks per game.
 
The Wonder Boys are coached by Mark Downey, who is in his sixth season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.
 
In his time at Tech, which is now in its 10th season overall, Downey has amassed a 147-113 record. Overall, Downey is in his 19th season as a head coach and has career record of 313-219.
 
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
The No. 3-ranked Dallas Baptist Patriots are off to a 1-3 start to their season and are coming off a 90-51 win over Colorado Christian in their most-recent game. Prior to that, DBU had dropped its first three games with their first two losses coming two weekends ago at the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic. At that classic, the Patriots lost 75-70 to No. 13 Michigan Tech and 89-77 to No. 2 Washburn.
 
Statistically, the Patriots average 78.5 ppg and rank ninth in the Lone Star Conference (LSC). On the defensive end of the court, the Patriots rank eighth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 73.3 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Patriots are 13th in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .405 (104-of-257) and allow their opponents to post a .460 mark (99-of-215) to rank 11th.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Patriots shoot at a clip of .272 (31-of-114) to rank 14th in the LSC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .320 (24-of-75) to rank sixth. From the free throw line, the Patriots shoot .630 as a team (75-of-119) to rank 16th.
 
Individually, the Patriots have three players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by TJ Thomas and his 12.5 ppg. Trevor Frank is next at 11.8 ppg while Drew Calderon rounds out double-figure scoring at 10.3 pgg. Two other players are averaging at least 7.5 ppg.
 
Xavion Brown is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 5.0 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Brown leads the team and is averaging 4.5 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Patriots are led in steals by Cody Stevens at 2.5 steals per game and in blocks by Bishop Jones at 1.0 blocks per game.
 
The Patriots are coached by Dr. Blake Flickner, who is in his 20th season at Dallas Baptist. In his time as a head coach at DBU, Flickner has amassed a 376-218 record and has had nine 20-plus win seasons.
