Golden Suns sweep East Central

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech volleyball team continued their winning streak on Friday afternoon with a 3-0 sweep at home against East Central. The Golden Suns have now won six-straight matches, which is the longest streak since the 2021 season.

In the match against East Central, the Golden Suns outperformed the Tigers in just about every category. Tech would hold advantages in kills (42-28), aces (10-6), assists (42-27) and digs (41-29). The Golden Suns even had a sizable advantage in hitting percentage (.352-.182).

All three sets were closely contested throughout the early-to-mid portions of the set, but in each, the Golden Suns would seize control late and put away the Tigers.

In the first set, the Golden Suns broke a 10-all tie by scoring five of the next points to take a 15-11 lead. The lead would get as high as six points, 18-12, but ECU eventually pulled within three points of the lead at 22-19. Tech then scored three of the next four points to secure the win, 25-20.

Set two saw the Golden Suns have a five-point lead dip to just two points, 19-17. Tech, however, then ripped off six-straight points to emphatically win the set, 25-17, and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set was back and forth in terms of scoring runs with Tech leading for most of the action. At one point, however, the Tigers had pulled with a point of Tech at 16-15. The Golden Suns responded with four-straight points to be the first to 20. After ECU scored a pair of points to make it 20-17, the Golden Suns emphatically closed out the set by scoring five of the final six points.

Individually, the Golden Suns were led on offense by Millie Allgood. She would have a season-high 13 kills. Allgood also committed just two attack errors on 26 total attacks for a percentage of .423. Next in kills was Henley Hooks. She would have nine kills. Savannah Meyer was one off that pace with eight.

The Golden Suns will now prepare for a home match on Tuesday, October 30 against Henderson State. First-serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
