TIPPING OFF
The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team is back from its holiday break and ready to jump back into action this Saturday afternoon on the road at Ouachita Baptist.
 
This will be 184th meeting all-time between Tech and Ouachita Baptist. In a series that dates back to the 1926-27 season, Tech and Ouachita have played each other multiple times a year consistently as conference rivals. Overall, Ouachita holds a slight 92-91 advantage in the series.

TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys are 5-6 overall and 2-3 in the GAC. Tech have won two-straight and are coming off a defensive masterpiece in their last game prior to the Christmas break as they held Arkansas-Monticello to just 33 points.
 
The 33 points allowed by the Wonder Boys were the lowest in a game since 2010 when they held Eclessia to 37 points. The last time the Wonder Boys allowed 33 points or fewer was back in the 1961-62 season when they held Hendrix to 33 points in a 42-33 win on the road.
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys average 68.5 ppg and rank 10th in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank third in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 66.3 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are ninth in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .427 (260-of-605) and allow their opponents to shoot at a .435 mark (256-of-588) to rank fifth.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .291 (74-of-254) to rank 10th in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .338 (79-of-234) to rank seventh. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .700 as a team (159-of-227) to rank eighth.
 
Individually, the Wonder Boys have one player averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Cassius Brooks and his 19.6 ppg. Four other Wonder Boys are averaging at least 7.0 ppg
 
Seybian Sims is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 7.8 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Kade Shaffer leads the team and is averaging 4.3 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Wonder Boys are led in steals by Brooks at 1.5 steals per game and in blocks by Sean Cobb at 0.8 blocks per game.
 
The Wonder Boys are coached by Mark Downey, who is in his fifth season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.
 
In his time at Tech, which is now in its ninth season overall, Downey has amassed a 140-100 record. Overall, Downey is in his 18th season as a head coach and has career record of 306-206.
 
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Ouachita Baptist is 7-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The Tigers have won two-straight games, both coming in conference play. Their last game played was back on December 19 on the road at Harding. The Tigers would win that high-scoring game, 96-84.
 
Statistically, the Tigers average 89.1 ppg and rank first in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Tigers rank ninth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 77.8 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Tigers are first in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .509 (354-of-695) and allow their opponents to post a .455 mark (302-of-664) to rank ninth.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Tigers shoot at a clip of .425 (108-of-254) to rank first in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .390 (97-of-249) to rank ninth. From the free throw line, the Tigers shoot .726 as a team (164-of-226) to rank in a tie for fifth.
 
Individually, the Tigers have three players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Hobert Grayson and his 24.4 ppg. Shaun Williams is next at 19.9 ppg while Reggie Martin rounds out double figure scoring at 10.4 ppg. Two other Tigers are averaging at least 8.0 ppg as well.
 
Grayson is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 11.9 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, PJ Neal leads the team and is averaging 3.9 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Tigers are led in steals by Grayson at 1.8 steals per game and in blocks by Devyn Franklin at 0.7 blocks per game.
 
The Tigers are coached by Dennis Nutt, who is in his 14th season at Ouachita Baptist and his 20th overall. In his time at Ouachita, Nutt is 172-191 while his overall coaching record is 244-287.
