RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech University Director of Athletics Abby Davis has announced the hiring of
Hannah Wuest (rhymes with beast) as the head coach of the Golden Suns volleyball program. Wuest will be the 10
th head coach in the program's history.
"We are extremely excited to have Coach Hannah Wuest join our athletic department as our new head volleyball coach," said Davis. "Hannah has been a part of high-level volleyball from her college days through her coaching career. She is a dynamic leader with an unwavering work ethic that will help return Golden Suns volleyball to its highly-competitive status within the conference and region."
A highly-decorated player in her collegiate volleyball days, Wuest is making her way to Tech following a remarkably successful five-year stint as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at nationally-prominent Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan.
Joining the program in 2020, Wuest helped lead the Bulldogs to a 125-29 overall record, which included a 34-1 mark this past fall.
Additionally, Wuest was instrumental in the Bulldogs winning a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular season championships (2024 & 2022) as well as four-straight GLIAC Tournament titles (2024-2021). With those conference tournament championships in hand, Ferris State automatically appeared in four-consecutive NCAA Midwest Region Tournaments, playing in the title game in all four and winning the regional this past fall to advance to the D2 Elite Eight.
"I would like to thank Athletic Director Abby Davis for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of the Golden Suns family and lead the women's volleyball team," stated Wuest. "There is plenty of opportunity to work our way up in the conference, and I am excited to lead these young women both on and off the court."
While at Ferris, Wuest also helped mentor and cultivate several major GLIAC "…of the Year" award winners including the Player of the Year (2024), Freshman of the Year (2024), Offensive Player of the Year (2024, 2023), Defensive Player of the Year (2021, 2020) and Setter of the Year (2024, 2023, 2022).
Highlighted among those award winners was outside hitter Olivia Henneman-Dallape, who took home the Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year awards in the GLIAC this past fall. Those top conference plaudits were just the start as Henneman-Dallape went on to garner Midwest Region and National Player of the Year honors from the AVCA and D2CCA.
Prior to her time at Ferris, Wuest spent two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Indianapolis. At UIndy, Wuest helped led the Greyhounds to a 40-22 overall record with an appearance in the Midwest Region Tournament her final year.
Wuest's high-level volleyball coaching career was foreshadowed by her collegiate playing career as she was a two-time All-American setter at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois.
A four-year starter for the Bluejays, Wuest would help guide her team to four-straight NCAA Regional Tournaments as they amassed a 115-39 record. Captaining the court as the setter, Wuest would go on to rack up 4,238 assists, which set and currently stands as a program record at Elmhurst. In addition to her All-America plaudits as a player, Wuest was also a three-time all-region and three-time first team all-conference award winner as well.
Wuest is married to her husband, Kyle. The couple have a four-month-old son, Kellen.
