MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech softball team lost the opening game of their weekend series at Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday afternoon by a score of 5-0.
The Golden Suns would put seven runners on base with three hits, three walks and one UAM error, but were unable to come away with the timely hit.
After no score through two and a half innings, UAM pushed across the first run of the game in the bottom of the third. An inning later, the Cotton Blossoms added a run and then struck for three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the 5-0 lead.
Notching hits for the Golden Suns on Thursday were
Shelby Chavers,
Sydney Keaton and
Savannah Snow. Keaton's hit went for a double while Chavers' and Snow's were singles.
The Golden Suns used two pitchers in the first game of the series with
Bradi Basler getting the start. She would pitch the first 2.2 innings and allowed one run on four hits.
Jaycee McKee pitched the final 3.2 innings of relief and allowed four runs (one earned) on four hits.
The Golden Suns will look to bounce back on Friday as they will play the Cotton Blossoms in a doubleheader starting at Noon.
