MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech softball team lost both games of their doubleheader on the road at Arkansas-Monticello on Friday.
GAME ONE
In the opener, the Golden Suns scored the first two runs with single runs in the third and fourth innings. In the third,
Adrianna Cooney got things going with a one-out double to left field.
Arissa Harrish followed with an infield single to shortstop. On that single, Cooney took third to put runners on the corners with one out.
Shelby Chavers then drove in Cooney as she hit a ball to the right side.
An inning later,
Sydney Keaton led off with a walk. Keaton was quickly moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Sharlee Jackson. After an out,
Abigail Lochala came up with a clutch hit with a RBI single up the middle.
That score would hold until the bottom of the sixth when UAM scored twice to tie the game at two-all.
The Golden Suns then grabbed another lead with a run in the top of the seventh. The big hit in the frame was a two-out RBI double by Lillie Mahan.
UAM got the run back in the bottom half to force extra innings. In the eighth, the Golden Suns would have the potential go-ahead run at third base with two outs, but UAM would not allow the run to score, sending the game to the bottom of the eighth.
The Cotton Blossoms then got a leadoff hit to come all the way around for the game-winning run.
GAME TWO
In the second game of the day, the Golden Suns once more scored first, this time plating three runs in the top of the fifth. The first two runs scored on a two-RBI double to left-centerfield off the bat of
Shelby Chavers. Lillie Mahan then drove in the third run of the inning on a fielder's choice.
Unfortunately, UAM answered back in the bottom half and took a one-run lead as they scored four runs on five hits in the frame.
In the top of the sixth, the Golden Sun would get the first two runners on base with a leadoff single by
Sharlee Jackson and a walk drawn by pinch-hitter
Cora Skaggs. UAM would escape the inning without allowing a run to keep their one-run lead.
The Cotton Blossoms then added two runs of insurance in the bottom of the sixth to bring the score to its final of 6-3.
