TIPPING OFF
The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team remains on the road this Saturday afternoon as they are in Arkadelphia for the second of two regular season games against Ouachita Baptist.
 
This will be the 183rd meeting all-time between Arkansas Tech and Ouachita Baptist in a series that dates back to the 1926-27 season. Overall, Ouachita holds a 92-90 lead in the series. Since the two became charter members of the GAC prior to the 2011-12 season, Tech leads the series 17-14
 
Tip-off for Saturday afternoon's game is scheduled for 3 p.m. from Bill Vining Arena in Arkadelphia.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Wonder Boys are 17-6 overall this season and are 13-4 in the GAC. Most-recently, the Wonder Boys pushed their winning streak out to a modest two games thanks to a dominant 89-66 win on the road at Harding this past Thursday.
 
Statistically, the Wonder Boys average 74.9 ppg and rank fifth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Wonder Boys rank first in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 66.7 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Wonder Boys are second in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .473 (613-of-1,296) and limit their opponents to a .433 mark (516-of-1,192) to rank first.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Wonder Boys shoot at a clip of .404 (208-of-515) to rank first in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .365 (160-of-438) to rank 10th. From the free throw line, the Wonder Boys shoot .701 as a team (288-of-411) to rank sixth.
 
Individually, the Wonder Boys have three players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Taelon Peter and his 20.5 ppg. Cassius Brooks and Tommy Kamarad are next in scoring at 12.3 ppg and 11.9 ppg, respectively.
 
Josh Mitchell is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 6.0 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Kade Shaffer leads the team and is averaging 4.8 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Wonder Boys are led in steals by Peter at 2.0 steals per game and in blocks by Mitchell at 1.8 blocks per game.
 
The Wonder Boys are coached by Mark Downey, who is in his fourth season back on the sidelines at Tech after a 10-year hiatus. In his first stint, Downey patrolled the sidelines at Tech for four seasons from 2006-07 - 2009-10. In his final season, Downey guided the Wonder Boys to a program-record 30 wins and during that season, the Wonder Boys were ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII for the first time ever.
 
In his time at Tech, which is now in its eighth season overall, Downey has amassed a 127-93 record. Overall, Downey is in his 17th season as a head coach and has career record of 293-199.
 
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Ouachita Baptist is 8-14 overall this season and are 6-11 in GAC play. The Tigers are coming off a thrilling 92-87 win in overtime in their "road" game at Henderson State this past Thursday night.
 
Statistically, the Tigers average 73.2 ppg and rank sixth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Tigers rank ninth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 75.0 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Tigers are sixth in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .460 (575-of-1,250) and limit their opponents to a .458 mark (573-of-1,250) to rank seventh.
 
From beyond-the-arc, the Tigers shoot at a clip of .354 (192-of-542) to rank fifth in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .359 (165-of-460) to rank ninth. From the free throw line, the Tigers shoot .753 as a team (268-of-356) to rank second.
 
Individually, the Tigers have four players averaging double figures in scoring and are led by Terran Williams and his 13.6 ppg. Tylar Haynes and Emorie Knox are next at 13.0 ppg each. Reggie Martin rounds out double-figure scoring at 10.7 ppg.
 
Haynes is the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 6.3 rebounds per game. In terms of assists, Knox leads the team and is averaging 2.9 assists per game.
 
Defensively, the Tigers are led in steals by Knox at 1.0 steals per game and in blocks by Rollin Belton at 1.0 blocks per game.
 
The Tigers are coached by Dennis Nutt, who is in his 13th season as head coach at Ouachita and his 19th overall. In his time at Ouachita, Nutt has amassed a 165-182 record. Prior to coming to Ouachita, Nutt had a six-year stretch as head coach of Texas State. Overall, Nutt has a 237-278 career record.
