WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Arkansas Tech men's basketball team lost on the road at Southwestern Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon by a score of 73-61.
Much of the game was closely played as there were five tie scores through the first 16 minutes or so of the first half. Each of those ties were the Wonder Boys knotting up the score, but after each tie, SWOSU had an answer offensively as they did not relinquish the lead at any point in the opening half.
The final tie score by the Wonder Boys was a three-point shot by
Cassius Brooks that came at the 4:46 mark. After the under-four minute media timeout, the score was still knotted on Brooks' trey, but not long out of the media, SWOSU scored a layup to push back out in front.
Over the next three minutes or so, the Bulldogs scored six unanswered points to suddenly take an eight-point lead with right at 40 seconds left. The Wonder Boys finally stopped the run and scored on their final possession of the half to cut the deficit to six points, 39-33, at the half.
Second half action saw things tighten up some more as the Wonder Boys began to work their way back into the game. By the 12-minute mark, the Wonder Boys managed to tie the score again, this time at 53-all. It was almost two full minutes of play before any points were scored, but unfortunately it was the Bulldogs who scored as they again managed to not surrender the lead.
The Wonder Boys were able to tie the score one final time at the 8:59 mark, but shortly thereafter, SWOSU hit a momentum three-pointer. From there, the Bulldogs stayed in the lead and were able to build it out to its apex of 12 points before the end of the game.
Brooks would be the leading scorer for the Wonder Boys as he scored a game-high 26 points.
Braden Tanner was the only other Wonder Boy in double figures as he scored 14 points off the bench.
Seybian Sims and
Albright Obode were not far from reaching double figures with Sims have nine and Obode eight.
The Wonder Boys will now return home and look to right the ship against Henderson State on Thursday, December 12. Tip-off from Tucker Coliseum is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
